Paddling Moosehead Lake
My paddle across Moosehead Lake, which was about half of the lake was an incredible experience today. It was like glass – not a ripple. In fact it was virtually impossible to discern the sky from the water and vertigo was a real issue. I needed to continually check off reference points to maintain my orientation, so I would look for Shoreline and within my boat at my map and other articles in order to maintain that orientation. It was a very meditative, even trancelike, paddle and I honestly could have fallen asleep at one point along the way. But the reality of that 40° water kept me as sharp as I needed to be to crank out the miles and arrive at Northeast Carry.
